The Reason the Democratic Party is Hiding their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: The Inside Story.

This action by the Democratic National Committee to block the publication of its internal autopsy report on the 2024 election is remarkable but not surprising. Averse to hard truths, the DNC often functions closer to a publicity machine than a political organization committed to building grassroots capacities for winning elections.

A Climate of Conformity

Hesitant to break with the prevailing attitude of conformity, the DNC has remained under that legacy throughout 2025. Releasing the findings could have demonstrated that the leadership actually want to encourage public discourse about the strategic failures which allowed the former president to win re-election. Yet, the DNC is proceeding as if there are no lessons to be learned following the tragic debacle of 2024.

The top priority: is this good for winning elections? If the answer is no, it is an unnecessary diversion from what truly matters," a justification reportedly given to justify concealing the report.

Major Failures an Analysis Could Have Examined

An autopsy report of substance would tackle head-on key points of failure. These include:

  • Electoral Disengagement: Failing to retain among millions of voters that backed the party's candidate during the previous election became a critical factor in the narrowly decided 2024 election.
  • A Decision to Run: The unwavering choice of the incumbent to seek re-election, coupled with a last-minute step-aside, has been criticized as denying the party's base the chance for a competitive nomination process.
  • Losing Touch With Core Democratic Voters: While facing economic anxiety, the electoral effort reportedly accommodating corporate donors' interests and not managing to address the impact of corporate greed.
  • The Gaza Impact: The refusal to reconsider a policy position concerning a major international conflict is cited as driving away key demographic groups, particularly with young people, Arab American communities, and Muslim Americans.
  • A Decline in Youth Allegiance: Research demonstrates a significant drop-off in Democratic support among voters aged 18-29.

A Record Avoiding Accountability

This refusal is consistent with a pattern to avoid difficult realities. It recalls an episode in which nearly all elected Democrat in Washington acquiesced to a sitting president's insistence on running for re-election right up until a poor televised debate led to a reversal.

At the same time, large majorities within the party's base had been repeatedly informing surveyors of their opposition to that candidate to run again.

Financial Concerns

A thorough analysis might also probe issues regarding where money went, such as what sums flowed to insider consultants as well as advertising contractors during an electoral effort that burned through an enormous war chest during the general election.

The Underlying Issue

Fundamentally, the suppression regarding the analysis is symptomatic of a submission to the established hierarchy who engineered an unsuccessful national race. The message to rank-and-file members – including countless small donors – is that they do not be trusted to see what the insiders say they discovered based on an analysis based on feedback from all states.

An organization unwilling to critically review where it went wrong is unlikely to climb out of the pattern that proved so beneficial to the winning candidate.
